Influence of air conditioning temperature on total energy consumption of data centers

The high energy consumption issue of data centers becomes the focus of attention from all parties. This paper conducts a test study on the impacts of different set temperatures of supply and return air at the air conditioning terminals in the business compartments of a data center in Shanghai on the operating energy consumption of the air conditioning terminals, the operating energy consumption of IT equipment, and the energy efficiency of the air conditioning terminals. The research discovers that as the temperature difference between the supply and return air at the air conditioning terminals increases, the overall operating energy consumption of the computer room decreases and the energy efficiency of the air conditioning terminals improves. Under the condition of a fixed temperature difference between the supply and return air, the lower the supply air temperature is, the lower the operating power consumption of IT equipment will be, and the lower the total energy consumption of the computer room compartments will be.
